14 DAY TRIAL // Today, September 11, 2016, 4MLinux developer Zbigniew Konojacki has informed Softpedia about the availability of the Beta release of the Core Edition of his upcoming 4MLinux 20.0 GNU/Linux operating system.
Still powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel series, 4MLinux 20.0 is now in development, and it looks like it incorporates the Glibc (GNU C Library) 2.23 and BusyBox 1.25.0 core components, along with GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 6.1.0 for compiling the programs included in the final release of the GNU/Linux distribution.
Usually, the independent 4MLinux distro includes software packages compiled for 32-bit, namely i686, hardware architectures, but it seems that's about to change, as the upcoming 4MLinux 20.0 will be supported on UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) PCs with both 32- and 64-bit firmware.
"The 4MLinux 20.0 series uses GNU Compiler Collection 6.1.0 to compile programs designed for the i686 architecture," says Zbigniew Konojacki in today's release announcement. "This is the first 4MLinux live CD, which can also be run on UEFI machines (with both 32-bit and 64-bit firmware!)."
That being said, you can now get you hands on the Beta release of 4MLinux 20.0 Core, a very basic version of the operating system on which the 4MLinux 20.0 distro and its derivatives will be based. However, please try to keep in mind that this is a Beta quality software, not to be used in production environments.
