14 DAY TRIAL // We have been informed earlier today by Zbigniew Konojacki, lead developer and maintainer of the 4MLinux independent and open-source distribution, that the Beta release of the next major version of the OS, 4MLinux 14.0, is now available for download and testing.
According to Mr. Konojacki, the Beta build of the 4MLinux 14.0 Core Edition operating system is powered by the long-term supported Linux 3.18.21 kernel packages, and it is based on the latest BusyBox 1.23.2 and GNU C Library 2.21 software. However, the biggest new feature is support for GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 5.2.0.
"This is a core system (only a few MB in size) for the 4MLinux 14.0 series. The system includes: the Linux kernel 3.18.21, GNU C Library 2.21, and BusyBox 1.23.2. The 4MLinux 14.0 series uses GNU Compiler Collection 5.2.0 to compile programs designed for the i686 architecture," says Zbigniew Konojacki.
Those of you who want to take the 4MLinux 14.0 Core Beta operating system for a test drive can download the Live CD ISO image for 32-bit (i686) computers right now from Softpedia. Being a Beta release and all that, we don't recommend installing 4MLinux 14.0 Core on a production machine, as it might contain unknown issues.
